JULY 2011 NEWSLETTER

Greetings Parents / Guardians,

We are pleased to inform that the School has now opened up its new student enrolment for year 2012 to public.  Kindly note that all enrolments are on a first come first basis as the available places are limited.  We would like take this opportunity to thank all parents for your confidence in our school by registering your child(ren) in the coming academic year 2012.

The school has organised its Field Trip visit to Jabatan Bomba on 22 July 2011 and we trust that children have enjoyed a great time of learning and outing together. This will also enable our children to have a better exposure to the real world apart from classroom learning.

In the past, we used to think that people with high IQs will naturally achieve greater success in life. Recently, some researchers suggest that a person's emotional intelligence (EQ) might be more important than IQ, in predicting a person's success in life.

Every parent wishes their children to be happy and successful in life when they grow up. They take a lot of pains to ensure that their children get good educations and have high IQs. But have you ever thought of raising a child's EQ? Although many parents are concerned with our children's intelligence quotient (IQ), research shows that a child's emotional quotient (EQ) is just as important for that child's personal success.

So what is Emotional Intelligence? Emotional quotient is your child's ability to feel, while intelligence quotient is your child's ability to think. Research has proved that children with a high level of EQ are greatly successful in life. Emotional Intelligence is as vital for a child as is his Intelligence Quotient. A high EQ child is happier and content than any other normal child. Emotionally strong children are well equipped to sense emotions and manage them too. The skills of emotional intelligence can be developed throughout life.

Happy reading!

Develop Your Child's Emotional Intelligence (EQ) - By Andrew Loh

Emotional Intelligence ...."The ability to monitor one's own and others' feelings and emotions, to discriminate among them and to use this information to guide one's thinking and actions." - John D. Mayer and Peter Salovey

Emotions are part of human life. Without emotions, no one can survive. Emotions ooze out of us almost every day. Happiness, sadness, frustrations, laughter, weeping and anger are all parts of larger emotional significance. Emotions are very special to us. They help us to organize, gather, recall, remember, prioritize and process different types of information that is so essential for our survival.

One of the main goals of parenting is to raise happy and relaxed children, who can face any emotional upheavals or obstacles of life. Children are notoriously weak in their emotional status, because of growing
brain functions. Emotionally weak children are more likely to face future problems in their life. Therefore, it is very important to develop your children's emotional health.

Emotionally stable and healthy children are always better than the ones who are not. Being emotionally healthy means many positive things. Here are some of the benefits of emotional health:

Learning - Emotion-healthy children are better learners, because they can learn with a peace of mind and without any mental disturbance. Emotional stability induces a calm and quiet brain that is so essential for classroom success.

Behavioural problems - Children with better emotional health do not display bad behaviour. On the contrary, children with noticeable emotional problems tend to be rude and awkward.

Self-assurance and confidence - Emotionally stronger children are confident about their abilities and strengths. They also feel better about themselves in an assured manner. Self-esteem comes so naturally to these children.

Peer pressure - Peer pressure is one of the most dangerous things for a growing child. Excessive peer pressure, when occurs in classroom, has the ability to affect children's psyche and behaviour.

Empathy - Emotionally stronger children are very empathetic and they show a lot of concern towards others, who are facing some problems.

Non-controversial - These children are better in resolving conflicts that occur in their classroom and among children. In addition, they never enter into any unnecessary arguments with others.

Self-destructive habits - Emotionally stable children are less likely to get into self-destructive behaviour like drugs, alcohol, illicit sex and other immoral acts.

Friendliness - These children possess a pleasing and friendly attitude that can make them very popular wherever they go. In addition, they have the ability to influence others with their good behaviour.

Patience and good impulse control - Children who have better emotional abilities are very patient and they can control their impulses in a very efficient manner.

Successful - Above all, these children will become the most successful in their chosen line of profession. Success comes to them automatically, at least in a majority of them.

Develop your children's emotional intelligence leads to a number of advantages apart from the ones mentioned above. Here are some of them:

Facing threatening situations: Emotionally stronger children can react to an adverse situation in a quicker manner. They can quickly gather, organize, prioritize and process available bits of information in quick succession. This rare, but special ability helps them wriggle out of difficult situations. Such children can easily take self-protective action in case of any danger occurring to them. Better emotional memory can help them in many ways. This ability helps them in recalling information about possible dangerous situations by processing it in a seamless manner.

Moral autonomy and better conscience: Emotional intelligence also relates to moral autonomy and conscience. When the sense of conscience is good, children can make their own decisions without needing others' suggestions or advice. Moral autonomy will help them resist the push and pull exerted by external forces. In other words, they can resist inferior external forces with better thought control abilities. Such children will have the ability to self-judge between what is good for them or what could be bad.

Responsible nature: Parents can help their children learn how to be responsible in their life. This is possible in two distinctive ways. You can train your children how to become responsible for their own happiness and satisfaction. Second, you can tell them the reasons why becoming responsible can help them in controlling their own life destiny.

Emotional intelligence is a necessary skill for your children. Emotional strength also works as a strong antidote against repeated failures in life. Emotional sensitivity is an important aspect of child's life. When a child is emotionally sensitive, he or she may not be able to take the right type of decision, because of the perceived indifference to the ground reality. Too much sensitivity is quite dangerous because it signifies the presence of emotional instability. Therefore, parents will need to train their children about the basic aspects of emotional intelligence and stability.
